Sport Field Day at QCS

Posted: June 27th, 2011
On Friday, April 29, Ben Kilpatrick encouraged the National Honor Society (NHS) students at Quisqueya Christian School (the place where I work) to organize a TeacHaiti sport field day for the TeacHaiti students. After several meetings with the NHS students, Ben, Art and myself had to plan the event, it was finally a reality on Friday, April 29.  At 11:30 the Quisqueya drivers drove to the TeacHaiti School to pick up the students.  Art organized all of the activities for the students. The NHS students
prepared snacks and drinks for the students. The NHS also helped the students with their activities. The TH students loved the face painting activity. All of them wanted to have their face painted.  At 3 pm, some of the TeacHaiti students went home but the majority stayed for the  Qusiqueya basketball. The students all sat together and every time QCS made a shot, they were so enthusiastic. Cheering “Quisqueya, you are the best.” I think they brought much luck to the game because we won that game after losing so many in row.
I just want to thank all of the Quisqueya Students, Ben, Art and the NHS students and our school director Steve Hershey for making this day a fun and memorable day for the students. They had so much.

Saturday at the School of Hope

The Crochet class

As you know Saturday is my favorite day of the week because that is when I get to go to the School of hope and be part of the Art program and be around the students whom I love dearly. They drain my energy by 12pm but I am glad to be around them. A group of 7 students from QCS, my work place went with me. Not only because they are required to have 30 minutes community service hours but I think they genuinely want to come to the school and help. Many of them made necklaces which we use cereal boxes to make as well as other paper products.

I was particularly proud of my crochet students. I cannot believe how much they have learned and how fast they are learning the concept of crochering. We have 2 advanced students in the crochet class; their names are Hermite and Caride Aujour. They are crochering so fast and so beautifully now.

Also the painting class is going so well .The students are grasping the concept of painting so much faster now.

Wood carving in the culture class is going well. I was pleased to see Dachena and Shelda both in 4th grade working very hard carving their piece of wood.

Hence—–the pictures above.

I am so incredibly blessed to be part of these children’s lives.
